Friends, today we continue our journey through The Sounds of Home, a new collection of illustrated stories here on Dandelion Seeds — written by you, our community.
The first time I read today’s story, by
, I was transported. There’s a moment in her story where she suddenly shifts from past tense to present tense, and you’ll feel like you are right there with her, watching each dumpling come to life. Her story is brief, but it speaks to so many things — family and food, childhood and memory, and the beauty of shared traditions.
I wish I could find a single word for this convergence of themes, as there were other stories that spoke to it, too. For
, “Home is the sound of my dad grinding coffee before bed. The sound starts loud, crushing, and slowly becomes a gentle whir… ‘Coffee will be waiting,’ that sounds says.”And for
, home was “the sound of the convection oven kicking on, meaning my dad is up to cooking something good on a lazy Saturday morning, probably muffins.”So pour yourself a cup of coffee before enjoying Jade’s story, and I’ll see you back here tomorrow.
With love,
Candace
