Oh, my heart! Your story brought tears to my eyes for its wisdom and beautiful elucidation of a fundamental truth of this existence. Harmonious is such a beautiful word for embracing the complexities and contradictions of life, without wasting energy trying to fix them. Without those complexities and contradictions, life would not be--at all. They are necessary to existence. And the photo of Elena with her flower crown is just absolutely precious! Thank you for sharing this story and for being you in this world, Candace. You are a gift--words, art, and all.

Susan, thank you so much for your beautiful comment -- you always bring so many new layers of insight to each story, and this week more than ever! I love what you wrote here: "Without those complexities and contradictions, life would not be--at all," and I especially love your wisdom about not wasting our energy trying to resolve these complexities. I really needed to hear that tonight, so thank you!! 🙏🤍✨

Love and blessings to you, Candace. Always.

PS: I thought of you and José when I read this morning's offering in the Poem-a-Day, first because of the simple beauty of a poem about paying attention, and second because the poet is Uruguayan. Her name is Circe Maia and the poem is "I Didn't Know". Maybe you know her? https://poets.org/poem-a-day

Such a perfect word to describe that balancing act of emotions - all of which are valid - for a healthy and thoughtful outlook on life. And that woven crown is so delightful. How beautiful. ENjoy your holiday time together - may there be many shared moments to remember forever!

This is beautiful Candace. Knowing our feelings is something many take for granted but is not something children (and many adults) are able to do. And harmonious is next level isn’t it? What a little inspiration! Have a beautiful summer together.

Candace Rose Rardon's avatar

Amanda, you really put that so perfectly -- harmonious absolutely is next level, and I think it's why I walked away from my meeting with Elena's teacher filled with such gratitude and awe for her wisdom. Here's to a harmonious rest of the year for us all! 🙏🤍✨

As a former teacher, I never described a child this way. I would say friendly, congenial, well adjusted, well liked, makes friends easily, etc.

There is so much nuance in the world harmonious....a lovely word!

Candace Rose Rardon's avatar

Yes! I love how you put that, Dianne. There are so many things I always expected to hear in a parent-teacher meeting, and I think that's why my time with Elena's teacher means so much -- it's always filled with so much more nuance than I expected, and with wisdom for me to take away for both Elena and myself. Thank you so much for your wonderful comment, and for reading and being here 🙏🤍✨

A beautiful picture of your daughter! My firstborn daughter wore a crown of flowers for her wedding instead of a veil. Brought back a happy memory for me. I will ponder harmonious.

Such a lovely description for your daughter. There are so many people in my life who really have trouble with feelings and are not able to identify (or be ok with) either being happy or sad, so it is a blessing that she is able to feel and accept those feelings. Have a great summer, with lots of fun and flowers.
