Hello! And welcome to Dandelion Seeds, an illustrated newsletter from my desk to yours.
Ever since I was in high school, I’ve loved a particular passage from Rainer Maria Rilke’s Letters to a Young Poet. In my favorite letter, he writes, “And the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps then, someday far in the future, you will gradually, without even noticing it, live your way into the answer.”
That quote came back to me as I re-read this second-to-last installment of “Home is a Cup of Tea,” which is all about my move to Uruguay with Jose (and the country’s ubiquitous tea, yerba mate). I wrote this after having lived in Uruguay for only seven months; now, almost seven years later, it’s fascinating to look back on the questions I had at the time, and to see how I’ve slowly lived my way into their answers.
I have new questions now, and this week’s installment has been a fresh reminder of how right Rilke was — and of how great a role that time can play in our journeys and lives.
With love,
Candace
The latest installment brought tears to my eyes, happy tears. But I hate to have your story ending.
I have a tiny suspicion that you will settle down happily with Jose, and what a lovely story! I have no idea the Uruguayans love tea so much. I bet they all have their lovely Mate cups. Looking forward to your stories!
