This was a work of art, both written and visual. I didn't know about the legend before this morning, but I'll never forget it now. And the image of wheat and corn fields bordered by bright red poppies will stay with me forever. In fact, I think I'll plant masses of poppies next year! Thank you so much for sharing your gift with us.
Hello, I've started reading through your Substack posts and your work is so pretty. I'm curious what medium did you use to make these lovely reflections? Is it traditional drawing or digital art? It looks like you sketched and colored everything by hand.
Your essays and art art so much more evocative than photos. You "feel" the countryside as well as see it and that's the point of being there. We can all go on YouTube, but we miss the smells, textures, and flavors of the place. To have you focus on the small things that slip by the touring car is the grist of this beautiful post. And thank you for introducing me to Somnus, the god of sleep.

Beautiful, and what a sweet side-note to that myth! I had never heard that before.
Lovely as usual. And a good reminder that rest and growth go together.
I love your writing so well put thank you I'll put it in my heart.
Wonderful. There's nothing more beautiful than a good field of wheat.
I am mesmerized every time a color combination reaches out and grabs me.

Beautiful & vibrant, Candace! I didn't know about that Greek myth...good to know now! The poppies & wheat seem to love each other well. ♥️
