Hello there! And welcome to Dandelion Seeds, an illustrated newsletter in search of the magic in everyday moments.
When I think about the places I’ve called home in the world, there has always been a river nearby.
In the corner of Virginia where I grew up, there was the Nansemond River. In Uruguay — where Jose is from, and where we lived for seven years together — there was the Río de la Plata. And even here in Belgium, there is the Scheldt, flowing past us on its way to the North Sea.
As I read through your responses to last week’s essay, “Where Two Rivers Meet,” I loved hearing about the rivers you’ve made your home beside — and especially about the confluences happening in your own lives.
It feels like its own kind of confluence, how the stories I share flow into the comments you take the time to leave. I’ve hand-lettered a few of them here today, as my own way of honoring this new river we’ve made together.
With love,
Candace
PS — over the weekend, I also shared a new letter with paid subscribers, which included a new iPhone wallpaper featuring the confluence I painted for “Where Two Rivers Meet.” If you’d like to take a look, you can find it here.
Thank you all again for your beautiful comments on last week’s story, especially to , Switter’s World, and .
Oh my gosh! I am so honored at the beautiful illustration you made from my words. Thank you! I was so touched that I recorded a video of thanks, which I posted on Instagram and Facebook. I rarely record videos, and I particularly never record videos of myself, but I was so overwhelmed by the generosity and beauty of your work that I got over my introversion for once! Many blessings to you, Candace!
Inspired by the confluence of our meeting when you spoke to my students about your work years ago. Thanks for continuing to inspire. You are so humble. I have never thought of myself as a visual artist but perhaps I am. My recycled project with linen and doilies gives me satisfaction and a sense of calm.
