Dear friends,

I’ve shared with you before that while my husband Jose is an architect by trade, he also happens to be an excellent editor — and there isn’t a word I’ve published over the past few years that Jose hasn’t kindly heard first. 

And so it was that last weekend, before I did the lettering for my newest illustrated essay, “Gardens by the Sea,” I sat down and read the story to Jose first.

And after I’d finished, he looked over at me and said, “I haven’t heard you read a story like that in a long time. It sounded just like one of your Sleep Stories.”

Something you may not know about me is that for several years, I wrote Sleep Stories for the meditation app Calm. 

One of Calm’s co-founders first reached out to me in the spring of 2017, after reading a story of mine in an anthology of travel essays.
