Hello there! And welcome to Dandelion Seeds, an illustrated newsletter in search of the magic in everyday moments.
As I write this in Uruguay, there’s a beautiful blue sky outside my window.
The sun is shining, birds are singing, and shadows are dancing on the sidewalk, sure of their place in this corner of the world.
It’s got me thinking back to a story I wrote earlier this year — about the fact that last December, Belgium received less than twenty hours of sunshine.
While that seemed astonishing at the time, this December was even darker. I recently read the sun shone for only six hours (and 11 minutes!) in the first half of the month.
In honor of all the sunshine that Uruguay has held for us so far, I wanted to share the story with you again today. And wherever this happens to finds you, I hope the start of this new year will be a gentle one, filled with warmth and light.
With love from the Southern Hemisphere,
Candace
Gorgeous! I love that you appreciate the sun all the more for its elusiveness. ☀️☀️
In the UK, as with you in Belgium, I look to embrace the grey and to celebrate the sun. Happy New Year, Candace, to you and your family. Enjoy your time in Uruguay ☺️
