Hello there! And welcome to Dandelion Seeds, an illustrated newsletter that is hand-painted and hand-lettered, from my desk to yours.
Next month will mark one year since Jose and I moved from Uruguay to Belgium.
And that means it’s also been a year since I first got the idea for a new illustrated essay series called “The Well.”
One afternoon last June, I was sprawled out on the floor of our old living room in Montevideo. I was supposed to be packing, of course, but as so often happens during a move, nostalgia soon took over. I spent hours that day poring over my old travel notebooks — and every notebook took me somewhere different.
Back to India.
Back to Colombia.
Back to an island in Japan.
By the time I’d finished reading through my notebooks, the seed for this story had been planted, and so I’m thrilled to finally begin sharing it with you today.
With love,
Candace
That last part listing what you'll take: a walking stick, a rucksack, and a notebook, thrills me with the call of adventure. What would I take in my rucksack? How heavy would be the load on my weakening legs? Would my nightly shelter be that large green Irish woolen cape purchased decades ago? At my present age, I would be walking "for the rest of my life." A quest for a resting place. Thank you, dear Candace, for your ever-inspiring poetry and paintings.
You're really into something here. Stands out.
