This is awesome, thank you for sharing this fabulous tradition. Perhaps our world would be a better place if this kind of thing was practiced more often, and with adults!
What a delight to read your post! Iβm from Belgium and have spent countless summers at the coastβ¦ those flowers are such a huge part of my childhood summers π₯° it is so lovely to see that portrayed through your eyes βΊοΈπ
What a beautiful story and tradition. Here I am a geographical stones throw away (North London), and I hadnβt a clue it existence - such are the cultural bubbles we all live in. Thanks so much for sharing. M
Thank you for filling my heart with joy this morning with the wonderful local tradition. Iβve gone down a big search for more information in the Google β€οΈπΈπΉπΊπ
Okay, that was just perfect. I love the way children are cherished in Belgium and the Netherlands. Once you get used to having your toddlers whisked away so you can enjoy a meal, all the while seeing the kitchen staff laughing and enjoying your toddler, itβs hard to come back to the land of everlasting parental suspicion.
Selling homemade flowers for seashells! As I said, just perfect. Thanks, Candace.
What an absolutely gorgeous tradition! Honestly, I never would have imagined it - and this is exactly why it's so beautiful and so enriching to encounter other cultures and other imaginations. Thanks so much for transporting us there!πΈπ
A few years ago, while visiting a beach in California, I noticed a 'garden' of roses upon the shore. The pandemic had just been declared and the world had gone awry. However, seeing that garden gave me a little bit of joy and brought back the memory while reading your lovely post
Loved this story Candace! I love the name of the flowers and that children exchange them for seashells. So charming. And to stumble upon a Belgian beach tradition was a fun reading experience. Thank you. πππ

What a lovely idea. I assume people take them home afterwards as a memento of a day at the beach.
Or maybe return some of them to the children for merchandise on the next day!
Thanks for sharing this amazing thing, that I didnt know about. I wish all beaches were like that
