Ahh I'm so very happy you enjoyed this, Don!! And I'm thrilled that some of the beauty and wonder of the tulip festival made its way from Belgium to the Bay Area this week :) It's always wonderful to hear from you, and please know I'm sending the biggest hugs to you today! ✨
The Colors of Joy—now that's a book I want to read visually. :) Hint, hint. Wink. Wink. :) The colors of joy ascend my birdfeeder every day with bright yellow goldfinches...every worry melts like ice on a hot day. :) They've been my teacher for YEARS upon YEARS and taught me "Lessons in Gold." Love this TULIP series so very much. My favorite: Eva's solo tulip tucked in her back pocket.
Yes! As I'm sure you could tell, your beloved birdfeeder and its family of goldfinches were very much on my mind as I wrote "The colors of joy" this week :) I always love the joy I can hear in your voice when a goldfinch arrives as we're talking on the phone (and I can't wait for the girls and I to hopefully witness them next month 💛💛)
That steeple is indeed beguiling. Somehow it reminds me a little of the tower in the Topkapi palace in Istanbul. A place which, as you know, has its own special relationship with tulips.
Yes! A big part of me really wanted to create an illustrated history of tulips, especially where that history connects with Turkey (as my favorite way to drink tea will always be from tulip-shaped glasses :) In the end, I decided to focus more on our personal connections to the tulip festival, but perhaps next year!
You made my heart happy!
I'm so very glad you enjoyed this, Switter -- thanks so much as always for reading and being here 🙏
I LOVE THIS SO MUCH!!!!! So full of hope and wonder!!! Thank you, Candace, for the gift of these blossoms!!!
