Hello there! And welcome to Dandelion Seeds, an illustrated newsletter in search of the beauty and wonder in everyday moments.
I first published this illustrated essay — “Pockets Full of Walnuts” — one year ago this week, and I was planning to share it with you again a little later this fall.
But on a walk this morning, the girls and I just so happened to pass through the very park this story is about.
The robins were singing, yellow leaves were floating to the ground so softly they reminded me of snowflakes, and the air was once again filled with the same hint of autumn’s magic. And as we walked home, I decided that today is the day.
Of course, not everything was the same. This time, Elena and I were joined by her little sister, Eva, and instead of filling our pockets with walnuts, we filled an old coffee cup with glossy brown chestnuts.
They fell to the ground so hard they made an audible thump, and for one golden moment, all felt right with the world.
With love,
Candace
