“Don’t wait for someone to tell you that your project is worthwhile. If you’re moved to write, draw, create, produce something, that’s all the permission you need to devote some time and energy to it. Make a commitment to yourself.”

Well hello!
While I normally find my way into your inboxes on Tuesdays, today I thought it might be fun to stop by with a little something different: a sneak peek from the next illustrated essay I’ll begin sharing here soon.
“Home is a Cup of Tea” has over forty vignette illustrations and this new essay has nearly thirty (which I’m painting in acrylic inks this time, rather than watercolors), and what I love about working on such a big batch of illustrations at the same time is that there are always some that surprise me — some little object or scene that I didn’t expect to love as much as I do.
The sneak peek I want to share with you today is a perfect example of that — a bird’s eye view of cargo ships waiting near Singapore, and it’ll be part of a series of tiny landscapes as seen from high above:
There’s just something about the scene that brings me joy. Maybe it’s the shade of blue of the water, or the little foamy wakes of the smaller boats, that feel like comet tails — but it’s giving me even more energy to keep bringing this new essay to life.
Here’s to creative surprises, and to an inspiring weekend ahead,
Candace
I simply can’t wait!!!!! Your words and paintings 🖼️ make me pause and take a mindful moment to breathe in all the little joys peppering my path. Thank you.
I just discovered your beautiful writing and illustrations and they have brought great pleasure to my day. Have you ever seen the art of Tasha Tudor? I cherished her books as a child and love them still. Your art has the same effect on me and I am so grateful I found it!
