Hello there! And welcome to Dandelion Seeds, an illustrated newsletter in search of beauty and wonder in the world.
Last month, I returned to one of my old travel notebooks to create a new illustrated essay series, “The Well.”
Now, for the next few weeks, I’d love to draw from a different kind of well: the last sketchbook I kept in Uruguay, before we moved to Belgium. I’ve chosen some of my favorite landscapes and can’t wait to share them with you, starting with a special stretch of coastline outside Montevideo.
When I painted this sketch in 2021, I’d just gotten some disappointing news professionally, and so I hope the vast blue sky, towering pines, and wild belladonna lilies bring you as much peace today as they did to me then.
With love,
Candace
This struck me immediately, I’m such a fan of David’s poetry and this is one of my favourites! Give up all the other worlds except the one in which you belong… This poem became a mantra for me during some difficult times in my life and is now a reminder of what came after. Your illustration is perfect. Thank you!
Lovely, Candace. I can see how that wide blue sky could lift your sagging spirits.
