I'm with you and Mary Oliver on this! We always need more art about birds and flowers! I once had someone unsubscribe from my newsletter and under the reason for why, they wrote: "Too many comics about oceans and stars." 🤣 They were clearly not my target audience.
I love your illustrated essays so much, they not only bring my joy and insert more beauty into my weeks, they also inspire me to notice more and make more art!
These essays are just so lovely and vividly done. I've never seen anything like them. And in an age of AI generated everything, work created from the head, heart and hands is especially important. Simple, beautiful and moving.
Blackbirds are fascinating to watch. The past week or so, I’ve apparently been hosting a blackbird convention… dozens on the ground, pecking through the grass, dozens more in the trees overhead watching out for hungry hawks… and there is always the one that perches up on my deck steps overlooking my yard… then they all rotate places, some from the ground up into the trees, trees into the ground, the lone sentry flies onto the ground or the trees and us replaced by another black bird… I’ve spent hours holding really still watching this play out…
You always surprise me. Your words, your art 🎨 the way you see the world around you is so beautiful and I admire it so much. Absolutely loved reading these stories and feeling inspired and joyful thanks to you. I absolutely love nature and feel blessed to read your point of view 🥰🧡💐
These are wonderful poems about time, the sun, a black bird, flowers. The language is simple, even a child can enjoy, but there is no doubt that the lines carry poetic expressions and are well-written which make them a pleasure to read. Good work!
Just gorgeous! I think Oliver's enduring popularity and meaning to so many is a testament to the fact that we never stop needing stories about the wild.
I think writing about flowers and birds is perfectly lovely and should continue.
I too am living in a new place. Last week, the birds brought spring to life. On a walk, surrounded by bird song, I identified 3 birds I'd never seen before. It was absolutely glorious and such a deep relief.
Beautiful. I missed the sun piece first time around, but I absolutely love it ☀😎 Scarcity really does breed appreciation. It's the reason why an appreciation of death helps us to live life more fully 💛
I loved this collection of stories of your Spring in Belgium. Absolutely pure for all the senses. Your blackbird reminds me of the meadowlark painting you sent me. In past years, the meadowlark sang way out in the desert or at one particular spot on the road into town. Yesterday and today, I heard meadowlarks piercing the air with their music all over town. It's a clear, strong call much like you describe of your blackbird. Thank you.

Hear, hear and three cheers!
I love everything about this! The words, the illustrations, the message. It's like finding a sweet little present in the middle of your day.
Mary Oliver and I agree! There aren’t enough stories about flowers and birds in my opinion. I love this anthology. Thank you for sharing 🤍

OMG! Your writing and the entire style of how you've presented these essays are just so beautiful that I'm out of words! This made my day! 💙

Reading all these together is so meaningful. It's like I am experiencing the onset of spring (even as I sit through Bombay's sweltering summers))
Thank you for the collection of stories. They tell a bigger, more complete story of your journey through time.

I really love the blackbird story
