Oh how lovely 💚 My sister-in-law is from Umbria and she married my brother in Assisi. Many years later, I also married my husband in Città di Castello in the Umbrian hills 😊 Such a beautiful part of the world.
Beautiful, Candace. I have fond memories of Assisi from a visit many years ago in June. It was the only place which was at all crowded - Umbria seemed almost deserted otherwise. Although since I was living in Shanghai in those days, probably everywhere seemed a little quiet in comparison.
I once overheard a couple of American tourists in Amsterdam talking about their visit to Italy and especially Rome. “A lot of really old stuff there.” Indeed.
A drive through the Italian countryside by an over traveled person like me makes me yearn for a place more permanent than the strip malls and suburbs of my home country. You caught the essence and I felt a little vicarious homesickness. Ancient Assisi, where once, a young man gave up a life of privilege and started a movement that continues to this day to help the poorest of the poor.
the bridge between heave and earth. How beautiful. And your story reminds me of the last time we visited the Bay Area in California where my husband's relatives live. It was last spring and I was surprised to see how many people had planted stands of cypress trees as privacy screens or sound barriers for their next-to-the-freeway properties. They were lovely and so elegant in a city that has hard edges and uninspiring architecture.
What a beautiful way to describe the cypress tree. We have many here on the island where I live. I will ponder them differently now. Bridges between heaven and earth. Xo💚
What a lovely paean to those cypresses, Candace, and their distinctive green marching across the Umbrian Hills, providing a "bridge between heaven and earth"! Thank you for the gift of your art, your perspective and your terraphilic love for this world. Blessings!
Beautiful. A joy for the eyes and one's inner ear!
