In the approaching gift-giving season, you remind me that kindness is the greatest gift of all. As I move through my day here in Virginia, I think, "If we would all step up our kindness game, the world WOULD BE a better place." Is it always easy? Heck no. But it is possible. That is my Advent discipline this year: practice kindness. Sometimes that is hardest at home. So, here's to digging deep and becoming a kinder human being.
Thank you for sharing this lovely story with us. I was surprised to learn that the word for gift is so different from the word in my language, Afrikaans. Afrikaans originated from Dutch, therefore a lot of the words are the same or similar, but in this case our Afrikaans word is 'geskenk', wihich is closer to the German word 'geschenk'.
A lovely story of love in the world, and such BEAUTIFUL paintings!! As an aspiring artist myself who leans strongly toward realism, espescially in the depiction of nature, I feel encouraged (and validated) by your work.
I love this story and the exquisite paintings you made for it. I thought of words I learned while in Israel and the memories they invoke: shalom (peace), toda raba (thank you), and ani mitztaheret (I'm sorry). Seems I said that last one a lot.

What a lovely piece, brought tears to my eyes.
As always, your stories feel like peaceful waters, a gentle quiet space to be still and be grateful—to just *be*. Thank you.
Also your art is so incredibly beautiful. I thought you’d taken a picture of that crate of plums and those cherries. My words fail me!
I love how you and others interact with your daughter. Appreciating a child's perspective is a gift.
Interestingly, *cadeau* is also the French word for gift (probably originates there). So it's like...the word itself was a gift. I love it.
So gentle, loving, kind…human.
Beautifully written! I feel that I've learned these words along with you. Danka!

Oops... especially!!

Thank you for sharing, Cadence! 😊
So much kindness and goodness in the world. Thank you for reminding us of that.

"There are some words that stay with you forever.. " Such a lovely thought that is!
Thank you 💝
